1. Objective of using the electronic devices in the Library

The using of the electronic devices in the Library of Cyprus University of Technology (LCUT) happens aiming to the further users’ service. The availability of the tools for easier access of the users to the electronic sources and serviced offered by LCUT. In this way the user has the capability of using the new technologies for searching the form and online material as well as the digital collections of the Library.

 

2. Material Description

The LCUT in cooperation with the Innovation Centre CUTing edge has in its disposal the following electronic devices with the following characteristics.

3. Beneficiaries of use of electronic devices

The devices are lent to:

  •   Academic staff
  • Undergraduate students
  • Postgraduate students
  • PHD students and
  • ERASMUS students

 

Who work / study at the Cyprus University of Technology.

 

4. Borrowing rules 

The devices are lent with the presentation of the university identity of the users beneficiaries.

Their borrowing and their return is always realized on the help desk of LCUT. The maximum number for every use is two devices.

Renewals of borrowing and devices’ reservations cannot be realized.

Borrowing period and fine after delayed return.

*The devices borrowed for using within the Library always return to the help desk before the closure of the Library (even if there are borrowed for less than (5) five hours).

 

 

5. Users’ notifications and electronic devices’ charges 

The user is notified through email and/or by telephone when the return time of the device is finished. After two notifications the device is considered to be lost and the user is obliged > to pay for the device (as appears below) or to > buy it by himself/herself and to deliver it to the Users’ helpdesk.

Noticed that the prices of equipment of the electronic devices vary according to the case and that is why they are not written. 

 

6. Borrowing, return procedure 

The return procedure of the device happens as follows:

o    The user is informed from the Library’s Catalogue for the availability of the devices

o    The user comes to the help desk of the library and asks for the device that interests him/her.

o    If this concerns devices that belong to the Innovation Centre CUTing edge then the user completed the “form of transferring electronic devices”. The transferring time of the device from the Innovation Centre to the Library vary form 1 hour up until one day. The device remains to the help desk until one day until the applicant can take it.

o    The user borrows the device presenting its university identity to the user’s help desk (borrowing through millennium system). The user has the right to borrow up to two different electronic devices.

o    The user signs the acceptance terms and conditions’ form for electronic devices.

o    The user is informed by the staff for the duration of borrowing of the device

o    He/she receives the information form for the electronic devices

o    In case of tablet’s borrowing on the tablet a user account is created with the help of the Library staff

o    Delivery of the device and its equipment (charger etc.) to the user.

The return procedure of the device happens as follows:

o    The user returns the device to the help desk

o    The Library’s staff returns the device through Millennium system

o    The condition of the device and its equipment is checked

o    In case of tablet’s return the user’s account is deleted in order of all the applications or archives saved are deleted 

 

7. Device’s loss or damage

The device user has the sole responsibility for its proper management and saving. The LCUT do not have any responsibility for the device’s loss or damage. On the return of the device if any loss of its accessories or parts are lost, or it is not in the same condition on the moment of its borrowing, then the user has the obligation to fully replace it. In case of non-return theft of the device, the user has the obligation to fully replace it.

The LCUT has the right to remove the right of borrowing of an electronic device from users that repeatedly damage or delay to return the device. The replacement cost of the device varies according to its type. 

 

8. Connection and applications

The user connects to the wireless internet network (Wi-Fi) using his/her own codes. Moreover, he/she can install applications using his/her own account created on the presence of the Library’s Staff.

The LCUT do not undertake the training of using the above mentioned devices but only the unimpeded providing to the beneficiary users.

On the return of the tablet to the helpdesk the user with the staff’s help deletes his/her account and with this all the applications, archives etc. saved on this are deleted.
