Partnerships
The Library of Cyprus University of Technology in terms of social service, has undertaken the role of monitoring and coordination of the project and indexing of the material of four local Libraries.
Municipal Library of Limassol
The Collection of the Public Library consisted of about 60,000 volumes of books (many of them appear in many copies) and one big number of magazines and newspapers. Furthermore this collection is annually increased by a percentage of 5% through purchases and donations.
After the installment of the automatic system Millenium the creation of a unified automated Web – OPAC was achieved, through which both the users of LCUT and MLL can be updated for their collections and for the availability of material in real time.
The Library has the responsibility for the following:
· Definition of the policy of indexing and written procedures in cooperation with the members of the team of Municipal Library of Limassol.
· Constant and direct contact with the team of indexing of the Municipal Library of Limassol for the resolving of questions and exchange of opinions on indexing matters.
· Document quality controls, meeting of standards, reliability of transcription, documentation completeness. This is achieved through the frequent monitoring of the team’s registrations – locating of any mistakes – sending and discussing of the mistakes personally with every person separately.
· Creation of a manual for a common Policy of Indexing following the standard Marc21.
Holy Metropolis of Limassol
The Collection of the Library of the Holy Metropolis of Limassol is estimated to be comprised by 15,000 volumes of books, plenty of which appear in many copies, as well as important number of magazines of religious content. The subject of its material mostly covers religious matters. The input of data is realized by an automated system of Library named ΑΒΕΚΤ 5.6. with the usage of librarian standards UNIMARC and Dewey classification.
The Library has the responsibility for the following:
· Definition of the policy of indexing and written procedures
· Constant and direct contact with the team of indexing of the Library of the Holy Metropolis of Limassol for the resolving of questions and exchange of opinions on indexing matters.
· Document quality controls, meeting of standards, reliability of transcription, documentation completeness. This is achieved through the frequent monitoring of the team’s registrations – locating of any mistakes – sending and discussing of the mistakes personally with every person separately.
· Monthly visit to the library for supervising the project
· Creation of reports of the quality and quantity progress of the projects.
· Creation of safety copies Back-up for the data of the base of the Library.
Library of the Theatrical Museum of Limassol
The Collection of the Library of the Theatrical Museum consists of about 1600 volumes of theatrical and literary works, to which multiple copies are included. Magazine titles and photographic archive are included further to the collection of the Theatrical Museum. The work of indexing is in progress and the cooperation between the two Libraries is continued up until today. The personnel hired for the completion of the work, have been trained by the Office of Material Processing of the LCUT on the software of open code KOHA following the librarianship standards of coding librarianship data MARC21 and LC Classification. It is worth noting that the collection of the Library of Theatrical Museum of Limassol is continuously enriched by the acceptance of donations.
Cooperation with other University Libraries
The members of the Libraries of the Cyprus University, the Open University of Cyprus and the University of Nicosia can visit the corresponding universities and borrow or use their services. Firstly, they will have to fill in an application in the Library of their University, which will send the data to the Library which the user is interested to use. The service is free. When the member visits another library, he/she needs to show the his/her library card and he/she has the right to borrow up to five (5) books for fifteen (15) days.
The partnership students cannot use the Interborrowing service, but they have to visit the Library in which they belong to.
Partnership Application between the Academic Libraries
Future Partnerships
Objective of the CUT library is to transfer the feeling of safety to the libraries supporting, and the cultivation of the cooperation spirit, in order to achieve a complete and quality work. The ultimate objective however, is to project the work that is achieved and to promote the services of the Libraries to the audience of Limassol.
To the direct future cooperations of the Library the cooperation with the Agias Fylaxeos Senior High School is added. Further to that the LCUT has expressed the will to cooperate with the school Libraries that need guidance and support.
